Does Your Company Need a Mobile Website and Why?
If your business does not have a mobile website, don’t worry…you’re still ahead of the curve. It’s estimated that about 22% of mobile users have smart phones (which is growing exponentially), but there are 4x’s as many mobile users as internet users! Very few businesses are using mobile marketing at this time, but it is a very good idea to get engaged early to stay in front of your competition.
Mobile websites are essentially optimized for mobile users. For example, if you brought a standard website up on your phone’s browser, it would be very hard to read and you would have to scroll left and right and most likely the consumer will go elsewhere out of frustration. Mobile websites are designed to be a lot more simple and informative than a standard website so a customer can get the information they are looking for VERY easily.
There are many mobile website extensions as there are many for standard websites (.com, .net, .us, .gov) and the most common is .mobi. It depends where you get your domain which extension you will have. It is always a good idea to prominently display links to your mobile website throughout your store or campaign so the user can save it to their phone for future use.
Google also recognizes when it’s a mobile user doing a local search and will display mobile sites over standard sites. This is also a good reason to get on board early, because you have a VERY good chance to be the frontrunner on Google if someone is searching for a restaurant, a hair/nail salon, doctor, dentist, plumber, etc.
